Anyone who knows Kevin Bruneau knows he loves collecting vintage cars & trucks. As of now he has a dozen vehicles, including daily drivers and work trucks, and he is always on the hunt for more! With no personal preference for any single make or model, his collection is eclectic, ranging from early 20th and into the 21st century. He loves them all for different reasons: some are nostalgic, some are investments, and some are just cool.
All that said, one make has recaptured his attention recently: BMW. In the last year alone, he has invested in three of them! These are not just any BMWs either, he looks specifically for models from 1992 and before, if it is sporty and has a manual transmission, even better. Why? Because when they were all kids back in the 1980s BMWs were unobtainable to folks Kev’s age. In junior high he and his friends dreamed of the day they could possess a car like a BMW. In a time where vehicles were getting slower and boxier, the BMW sportsters of the 80s stood out as the ultimate ride – and apparently, they still do!
The market for these BMWs is starting to scream as those 80s kids grow older and find themselves in empty nests with a bit more disposable income. Daily drivers they are not; they are to be revered, cared for, and shown off only! While Kevin admits he loves his BMW collection for all the nostalgia they hold, sentiment alone is not what spurs his collecting spree – they are investments for his future! His generation is relatively young, not yet retired but well established, which means the nostalgia for hot 80s rides like BMW still has several years to mature. He can enjoy them while he has them, but when the time is right, he will sell them off to someone else who spent their adolescence dreaming of the day they would cruise around in a vintage Beamer of their own.
