Hey everyone, back at it again with another blog! This week I want to highlight some of the beautiful landscape paintings we have in our upcoming January 6th Estate Auction! Landscape paintings are not only visually pleasing, but extremely versatile when it comes to home décor. Whether its to add a festive touch for the holidays with a beautiful winter landscape by Jonathan Bradley Morse depicting a snow-covered path beneath the glow of an orange-pink sky, or perhaps to add a bit of summer fun with a painting of a rocky coastline with crashing waves by Giovanni Pisano landscapes can change the mood of the room you are in just by the changing the subject! However, if you’re like me and would like to add a brooding air of mystery, Hudson River School paintings may be for you. Coming up we have a painting by Julie H. Beers depicting towering birch trees lining a glistening lake illuminated by sunlight. Beers was the sister of two Hudson River School artists, James McDougal Hart and William Hart, as well as one of the most prolific artists of her time. Learning to paint from her brothers and her artist husband, Beers became one of the first American born women to gain recognition as an artist. Throughout the second half of the 19th century, Beers’s work was widely exhibited throughout the United States including the Boston Athenaeum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the National Academy of Design. Beers’s work conveys the intimacy of the Hudson River and New England’s vast landscapes, cementing her as one of the very few prolific female painters of the Victorian era. Now I won’t try to bully anyone into bidding on something they don’t want to but having a magnificent Hudson River School painting by a well-known female artist is a cool thing to brag about! Start the new year off right by checking out our stunning landscapes in our January auction and remember to save the date!
